Archuleta wins by losing ‘Idol’

If you care about “American Idol” finalist David Archuleta, please vote for David Cook.

The dueling Davids face off tonight at 8 on WFXT (Ch. 25) for the championship of the No. 1 show on network TV.

It’s the Kewpie doll vs. the scruffy rocker.

When “Idol” narrowed the field to 12, it was easy to peg Archuleta as the ultimate victor. He has a pleasant voice and appears cut from the same nonthreatening pinup material that “Idol” viewers go nuts for. (Remember Sanjaya?)

Even before reports surfaced of musician father Jeff’s browbeating over the years, savvy viewers were worried.

Although he is 17 - the same age as Jordin Sparks when she won last year - he carries himself as if he’s years younger.

He had to be admonished to open his eyes when he sings. That perpetual grin seems so pained, it’s as if he’s trying to suppress gas. Even last week, his eyes darted about the stage as if looking for an escape.

At 25, Cook, a poor man’s Chris Daughtry, is old enough to understand he’s making a deal with the devil.

If Archuleta wins, he is locked into a recording contract, the expectations of an aging franchise and perhaps several more years of his father acting as manager. (“Idol” producers banned Jeff from backstage, either because of his stage parent ways or because his help was giving his son too much of an edge, according to various reports.)

If Archuleta loses, he still will be besieged with offers. But at least then he gets a slim chance of regaining some sort of control over his life.

He recently told one reporter that he’s not even sure he wants to be a singer. He’d like to try other things. One gets the sense Archuleta hasn’t had much opportunity to live outside his father’s dreams.

Do we really need another celeb teen train wreck? The path from “Idol” to “Celebrity Rehab” is a short one, as ex-contestant Jessica Sierra demonstrated.

Archuleta is a minor for another seven months. Give him the space to retreat, however briefly, from the public spotlight.

Coming in second is not the worst thing that can happen to someone on “American Idol.”

The Reason For The Resurrection

Romans 4:25
25who [Jesus] was delivered up because of our offences, and was raised because of our justification.

The Bible tells us that Christ was delivered up for our sins and raised from the dead for our justification. You may already know why Jesus died for our sins, but do you know the significance of God raising Him from the dead?

Let me give you an illustration to help you understand the significance of Jesus’ resurrection.

Let’s say that you are living in a foreign country. One day, you happen to break a major rule of the land. You appeal to the king for mercy. He says, “A rule is a rule. I cannot bend the rule for you. What will others say about my integrity? However, if you can find a substitute to take your punishment — three months in jail — I will allow it.”

By God’s grace, you find a willing substitute. He goes to prison on your behalf and you don’t see him for some time. The days, weeks and months pass by.

Now, how or when will you know that your crime has been fully paid? When will you be able to rest easy regarding your crime? When you see your substitute walking in freedom again! When you see him out of the prison, you will know that the sentence has been fully served. You will know that you are now justified and no one can bring a charge against you for your old crime. No longer will you be afraid of the king or his guards coming after you because you know that the one who was punished in your place is now walking free.

Beloved, Jesus, your substitute, paid the debt you could not pay. On the cross, He bore the sins of your entire life. God put it all on Jesus and then He punished Jesus for every single one of those sins until He was fully satisfied. And because He was so pleased with what Jesus had done, He raised Him from the dead.

Today, Jesus’ tomb remains empty. He is not there for He has risen! His resurrection and empty tomb will forever be our assurance that we have been fully justified!

I've Got You 7/7/2007

Apparently, today is a good day to get married because of the three 7s in the date.

Haven't updated in a while. Have been quite busy. Been meeting up with friends in the end of May and beginning of June (check out the pics) then in June I was doing my assignments and working. The holiday programme went well. I taught the Nursery kids, did the activities, sang and danced with them, let them do lots of painting and play.

The new term has started and I'm in a different class in the morning. A K1 class with too many boys and a too chatty teacher. I've been going out with my colleagues too. Socializing after work... haha... We watched fantastic four together last week and went for dinner and karaoke last night. It was very fun. Good to go out with colleagues because we get to talk about something other than work and get to know each other better. Found out yesterday that one of them does not eat veggies at all. So she doesn't force the kids to eat their veggies. haha... During karaoke there was dancing, couch jumping and loud singing. So uncharacteristic of preschool teachers =)

I also recently stood up on stage in front of the whole company during our company seminar. I was asked to speak about my past experiences as a speech and drama student and how it benefitted me. I was so nervous but after the speech everyone was complimenting me. Praise God for His grace and favour. It was my first time speaking in front of so many people and all of them were adults. I estimate about 100-200 of them.

I went to the Planetshakers concert too on 15th June. It was wonderful. They are an Australian Christian rock band. Their music is very very good. I was sitting in the seocnd row. Had a great view and heard the music loud and clear. Many souls were saved that night, about 300. God is good.

Janice's Wedding

Went to Janice's wedding last saturday, 19th May. She is in the same nursery ministry team as me. So we serve in Sunday School together.

Her wedding was at Goodwood Park Hotel (Pool Terrace). My other team mates and I were invited to the Wedding Solemnisation and lunch.

The Wedding Solemnisation was wonderful. It was so filled with God's love and presence. So touched...

Shaz kindly did my make-up that day and it was P-E-R-F-E-C-T. She is a real pro and she did a great job. Thanks girl! You made me look beautiful.

Labour Day Outtings

Went for lunch with my parents, grandparents and sister today. Had lunch at bukit panjang plaza near my grandparents place.

After lunch, i went to meet up with Jo, Ju and Evan. I was so late. Lunch did not end late but there were people to send home and people to pick up.

We walked around the crowded shopping centres and streets. It was a fruitful day because all of us ended up buying something. Amongst the harvest for the day were clothes, shoes, bags and face mask. Had a lovely time catching up with the pretty ladies. Shall meet up soon. In the meantime, take care and be happy =)

Amazing April

Celebration 1-6th April

The first celebration was with my poly friends. We watched a movie, had dinner and went to a pub. I had a good time catching up with them and spending time together. I'll remember the “truth and truth” game we played at the pub for a long time to come. It was just so funny and silly. Filled with questions we would never ask and answers we would never give in normal circumstances. It was eye-opening. Dont worry... I won't say a thing. Thanks for all the presents. They were all quite “me”.

Celebration 2-7th April

The second celebration was with my MGS friends. We had dinner at taka at a very established French bistro which has many chains in Singapore. We had a good time talking, fooling around and taking pictures. The dinner wasn't great because the service was so bad. We waited so long for our food to be served and we were all so hungry. I felt bad too because I had chosen the place that we should eat and it was such a lousy place. So I would encourage all of you not to go there. If you don't want to eat horrible food and wait an eternity for it to come, then don't go there. I still did have a good time with my friends. Thanks for the present! I used it partially already. =) We'll be meeting again soon and having an even better time than that evening. Hooray!

Celebration 3-14th April

The third celebration was with my family. I had a pool and BBQ party at the Bukit Batok Civil Service Club. My sister sponsored the location and my mom sponsored the food.

We went swimming first at the 6 pools. Its very fun to swim there because they have this fun curly whirly slide, a wave pool and a drift pool. I like the first two the best. Then it was time for the BBQ. My aunt and cousin helped to barbeque the food. The rest sat around and talked. I did a bit of both.

The power kept tripping because the power socket was overloaded with the speakers and toaster oven so the music was sacrificed. My family did their part to make the party “work”. I was really touched and grateful for them. My aunt and mom blew up the balloons to decorate the treehouse. My aunt and cousin cooked the food. My uncle came and went back to his house to get the extension plug. My parents came and went back to buy and bring stuff. My birthday cake was really yummy too. My mom bought me an American cheesecake from Hilton hotel. I got lovely presents too.

Celebration 4-18th April

The fourth celebration was on the actual day of my birthday. I took leave and slept in, then went for lunch with parents and grandma. I ate a lot, till my stomach was bursting. I had a Japanese buffet at Hanabi at King's Arcade (along Bukit Timah road). Then is was home again before I went shopping with mom. I used the vouchers from Jolene and Sop, Shu, Sher, Reina and Sala. Bought new shoes and some stationary. Had class after that so that was the end of the celebration.

Celebration 5-21st April

The fifth celebration was with my church friends, Jane and Jing Yi. We went to vivo city for dinner. When I went to the restaurant, I couldn't find them. The waitress said they told be to go to the table to wait for them. I saw “We –heart- Peili” on the table. People around me were staring so I sat down and did not look at them. Then when they came in, they brought a cake and sang happy birthday to me. Some silly presents followed after that. The real present was great though. Haha... They went shopping with me and I used their present. Vivo city vouchers. It actually has a few of the shops I listed in my past entry. So the clever girls got the voucher for me. Thanks! The both of you made my day!

Its March! April is coming... my favourite day in the year is coming. 18th April! MY BIRTHDAY!

I've already made most of my birthday plans. I'll be celebrating with my different groups of friends separately and with family as well. Have been discouraged from having a big fancy party by my mom. I had my mind set on one but she was quite against it and i get her reasons so decided to celebrate this way.

I've told some of my friends about my plans and some I've yet to inform. My older sister has kindly booked a "treehouse" for me at the bukit batok CSC to celebrate with my family.

Two weeks into the new year already... Most of my time spent in work and class.

Work has been filled with chubby cheeks, crying, diapers and cuteness. I'm in the N1 class in the morning, helping the teachers out with the children who are brand new and suffering from separation anxiety. The children are all very cute of course. There's a indian-chinese boy with shoulder length curly hair and two little chinese girls with short hair and straight-cut fringe, they are small and chubby. These three kids would be the ones I think are the cutest. My N2 afternoon class only has 5 children but they are a handful as they are all new to the school. They cried for the first 2 days but were ok after that. There's a korean boy who speaks English in a adorable accent. His little brother in N1 is super cute... cheeks so fat and chubby!

Ok, enough gushing about the children. Class has been going on three times a week since the year began. Busy doing group and individual assignments. Have a group presentation this tuesday. Haven't contributed much to the assignment because wasn't proactive enough in a very proactive group. Was a bit worried about my lecturer finding out about my lack of contribution but i know God will take care of that. No point worrying. I'll just read up on what was covered in class and the group assignment so I'll be ready for the Q&A session after the presentation. Julz's you do the same too! We will do well in this group project because Jesus is with us!

Doing an assignment in this module that requires me to write an argumentative essay. The topic I chose was divorce and maturity. The thesis statement: Couples who get married at a younger age gave a higher chance of getting a divorce. Younger age being 16-24 years old. This led me to think about my beliefs of dating and marriage, personally I believe that one should date only when they are ready for marriage. Why do I believe this? Because of the messages I've heard and a book that I read. Even though this belief has its roots in christianity it actually is very practical.

When people date before they are ready for marriage, they are often still young and not mature enough, therefore relationships involve intimacy more than commitment. For example, if a couple starts dating when they are 16 and they will only be ready for marriage when they are 25, what are they going to do for the next 9 years? They'll engage in intimate acts eventually leading to pre-marital sex (which post a whole host of problems itself). Then they won't be able to take the strain of the relationship because of all the problems and break up.

Therefore when one is ready for marriage maybe in their early or mid twenties (depending on the individual) then they should get involved in a commited relationship that involves two mature individuals.

History Makers 6

Dec 18-21 2006

Went to church camp in Malaysia before christmas and it was AWESOME. Stayed four days and three nights in Hotel Equatorial Bangi in Putrajaya (somewhere near KL). The hotel was great, comfortable rooms and fantastic yummy food. Had buffet meals three times a day-breakfast, lunch and dinner. There was even an afternoon of shopping in Mid-valley shopping centre at KL.

These things were of course not the highlight of the camp but they certainly made it more enjoyable. The services were overflowing with God's anionting and presence. I was so touched and received a lot. God showed me things that I did not truly know. I spent more time with church friends and even my younger sister. It was a good time of fellowship.

had a chance to catch up with everyone. it's been a few months since we've seen each other. time really flies. now all of us are working. topics like comapny benefits, salary and work politics all came up while we were talking. how grown up... haha...

really enjoyed the time spent together and we should do this more often!

just finished two weeks of my degree course. it was a tiring and jam packed two weeks filled with work, class, assignments, work, class, assignments... you get the idea. no time to watch tv, go online, sms friends. but its all over now! woo hoo!

gonna start doing my final assignments soon. want to get it out of the way fast so i can start enjoying the rest of the year.

what's been going on lately? well lots to say but just didn't feel like blogging...

just finished watching princess hours (goong). the two of them are just so cute and silly. now happily listening to the soundtrack on my i pod.

gonna start my first class for BSc 02 next friday. portfolio development... then drama for young children (DFYC) on november 6 and reader's theatre (RT) on november 13. have been doing my reading and prelim assignment for DFYC then just realised that RT starts right after DFYC. so that means my deeparaya holiday will be spent doing my reading and prelim assignment for RT.

work has been going fine... planned most of the 2 weeks worth of holiday programme lesson plans our centre is supposed to do. we're probably the first centre to do so because there is one free soul in the afternoon i.e. me. the past few days have been busy covering for people on mc, hardly get to be in the K2 class. they are busy preparing for graduation... fun to watch them dance and shake their booty. had fun playing with my cute korean girl today. we are best buds now... had to peel her off me and ask her to play with her friends. fooled around with the N1s in the playground and the teachers kept saying i should be a N1 teacher. my answer? in the near future... wanna study and gain more experience first ;)

social life pretty much involves spending time with church friends, going for campus services and caregroup. have been attending an adult caregroup for the past 2 or 3 months. still attending campus (youth service) though... and glad i am because the message was really great. about restful study. i needed to hear that. broke down some bondages, fears and erroneous thinking i had about studying. the timming was great too because my course is starting soon.

time really flies... the end of the year is coming... and going to church camp with my younger sister in december. looking foward to it loads because its in a nice hotel in bangi (a place near KL, malaysia). i'll get to be soaked up in the word, worship, spend time with church friends, enjoy the hotel facilities and shop!! woo hoo! december when are you coming? i'm waiting for you...

It was Julz's 21st birthday yesterday. We went to her party and ate and ate and ate. Haha... not really. It was more like this- take pictures, eat, take pictures, play games, take pictures, cut the cake, take pictures and go home.

Her party was nice, intimate, sweet and well thought out. Liked the video that was played... gave everyone a closer look at what her life has been like and the prayer before cutting the cake. it was very meaningful.

next week there'll be a national day party. will wear something red and white and have some yummy food. better control... dun eat too much. my weight has gone down miraculously. thank you God! haha... i think i'm getting sick of the school food. so i dun gobble it up once i see it. i've also been having sandwiches for lunch the past few weeks. saved me some money and is very healthy.

went on 2 field trips today... yes, TWO field trips.

first field trip: 8.30am-12.00pm
the K2 class went to watch the play "The Selfish Giant" at the DBS Arts Centre. was a enjoyable performance... the children were very excited and laughed at all the funny bits. the australian international school kids were there too, acompanied by 2 relatively attractive male teachers. haha... had our snack before leaving.

when i returned to the centre, received the news from my centre head that i would be going to the N1 field trip to the botanic gardens because the N1 teacher was on MC.

second field trip: 2.00pm-5.30pm
the N1 children had a picnic at the botanic gardens. thankfully they were accompanied by their parents or caregivers. played some games and sang some songs and had our picnic.

played "mummy" to a little girl called natalie. her parents couldn't make it to the field trip. gave her food, wiped her hands and mouth and held her hand while we ran up and down chasing the other children.

it was very sunny and i was so sweaty and smelly but i had a good time and it was fun watching the kids having a good time at their picnic.

helped to design part of a newsletter in the afternoon, then i put sleeping beauty (2 yr old korean girl- nicole) to sleep in the library corner (she was falling asleep during speech and drama class).

had australian pie and fries for dinner... was alright, cornish pastry i had in oxford was better though.

watched dirty dancing 2 (the 4th time) and tried to dance like the actors but could not. discovered that my sisters can shake their booty quite well. haha...

Graduation 2006

Graduated from Ngee Ann Polytechnic today, I was so happy to receive my diploma certificate. It's been a long journey. I still remember stepping into the school, not a familiar face in sight, no one to say hello to and no one to smile at. I had to make new friends from the beginning and it wasn't easy. It seemed so much easier in primary and secondary school.

Then the lectures, assignments and projects came. The countless group conflicts faced and the deadlines up ahead were not easy to deal with. It took us a while to find out who we worked best with and who not to do projects with.

There were many happy times shared... Four of us eating noodles at canteen 3. I gave you my vegetables, you gave me your meat, I gave you my ikan billis, you gave me your soup. Something trivial... but I took it as a sign of our friendship. We knew each other's likes and dislikes and we cared about each other. Drinking bubble tea, surfing the internet, listening to music, reading magazines at the library to pass our time during break... those were the best. We talked and took a breather from the hectic day filled with lectures.

I had a fun time at Ngee Ann. It was during those years that I grew closer to the Lord, made great friends and at the end I received my diploma.

All the best to those who graduated today, we've come a long way and let's look forward to a new chapter in our lives. It's only the beginning...

1. Pay day!!! Happening on the day the Great Singapore Sale starts =)

2. Peishan a.k.a Jie Jie coming home for good... after studying for so long (4 years)... miss her! and waiting for the goodies she is bringing home of course.

3. Graduation! Applied for leave already... thank God that my probation ends 2 days before the graduation if not I would have had to take unpaid leave and not annual leave.

4. My papillios arriving soon from Germany. Ordered a pair with collegues... Can't wait!

went to the steven curtis chapman concert last night at the rock auditorium. it was such a great concert. i sat next to my nursery ministry team leader's friend. due to a little mix up i wasn't able to sit with my caregroup. but it was ok cause i sat in the third row! had quite a good view of everything and i could see steven curtis chapman upclose.

his music is really awesome. upbeat, melodious and very meaningful. i really enjoyed listening to it. made me realise one thing, that God's music is so much better than all the rest. once you hear his songs the songs of the world seem to pale in comparison and lack in depth and meaning.

i never heard steven curtis chapman's songs until recently but i have heard of him and his family. they adopted a child from china and were featured on hallmark channel's "adoption" programme. very touching story i remember watching a few years ago.

he showed a video while he played one song and his little daughter was in it. so cute and adorable! the video was so touching... the children running into their parents loving arms. just like how we run into Jesus' arms. i teared a bit... but didn't bawl.

had such a blessed night yesterday!

Went out with Julz and Evan yesterday. Julz and I had lunch at long john silver's. Combo 2 is very yummy... haha... We met Jean and Ying Jie there so we aked them to join us for lunch. The two of them were quiet while eating their lunch. Julz and I were talking, trying to start conversation and giggling.

Then we walked around for a while and met up with Evan shortly after. Julz's bf Keith joined us here and there. We were talking about going to the graduation ceremony and what we would have to wear so we decided to look for jackets which all of us don't have. Went to several different stores hunting for jackets.

After an afternoon of jacket hunting we went home. It was nice to meet up with the two of them and catch up. Poly seems to have gone by in a blink of an eye. Now we are all working and going to study and get our degrees... Time flies!

20th Birthday Celebrations

had many celebrations these past few days. some planned by me and some not. my real birthday was yesterday 18/4. if you didn't know that, you are not my friend. read on...

3. i met julz and we had lunch at mos burger at taka. i just love the beef rice burger and the milk tea. we talked about work (the kids, the colleauges, the parents) and friends. the sweet lady bought me a brownie for dessert. we shared the yummy cake then went to walk around and i bought some stuff. thanks for the presents! i love the gianormous bottle of moisturiser. haha...

4. had dinner at my grandma's house. very yummy spaghetti and pork chop. then cut the cake with my family. not everyone was there, some overseas and some didn't know that i was bringing a cake. it was alright... they sang me happy birthday and we ate the cake.

5. went to church on easter sunday. i met peggy, my lecturer, and i sat next to her in the overflow room. we chatted for a while before the service started. the message was really great! about Jesus our good shepherd. after the service, did some shopping. peiyi bought a waterbottle and i bought a bag. then had lunch at marina square, genki sushi. i felt like eating sushi. the lunch was delicious!

6. i met my dear cousins and sister after work.we had dinner at long john silver's. my second time eating there... and i must say, i enjoyed the food there more than i did my first time. my cousins and sister gave me very nice birthday presents. i was so happy! then we watched a movie, take the lead. a very nice and entertaining show. i love dancing shows! haha...

Unplanned celebrations
1. during a cg bbq in the beginning of april, my cg bought me a birthday cake. i was quite surprised because i didn't think that they would celebrate it for me so early.

2. went to shaz's house for dinner with sahz and gracia on the 17th. we watched tv, ate yummy food and laughed a lot at the silly things 5566 were doing. and they drooled over meng ze... endlessly... haha...

3. today my colleagues bought me a cake and sang "happy birthday" to me. then they gave me a present. so sweet!

such a blessed birthday right? haha... i know who to thank for it. all of you are in my heart. musheee wusheee =)

20th Birthday Celebration #2

celebrated my birthday with caregroup friends on friday 14th of april. had lunch at my place and we had lots of fun. playing the piano, singing karaoke, talking, taking lots of pictures and videos and of course the praise and worship in my tv room was the highlight of the day. just sang worship songs and prayed for each other and had holy communion. it was a session where there were no inhibitions, no time constraint and where words were spoken and lives were changed. and all that happened in my little house.

really happy that everyone came and enjoyed themsleves. supper after that was fun too. fellowshipped, took lots of pictures (again) and they sang me a birthday song after that (so touched).

thank you Lord for blessing me with such wonderful friends.

celebrated Si Ling's birthday at TCC Millenia Walk today (saturday afternoon). Jing Yi, Guan, Jane and I were there. too bad i was late, busy sleeping at home...had a short photo taking session, gave the dear sister her present and ate the yummy cake. Happy Birthday dear! Love ya...

then i went to coffee bean to meet Edwina, got a cake for us to share and some iced water. Jolene came later tired from all the walking. we talked for a while... about what we were doing now and other poly friends. then made our way up to the campus service. the message was very good, real and relevant to me and youths of today. loved the jokes and had many laughs...

after the service we had dinner at the Millenia Walk foodcourt. some people from the cluster talked to Ed and Jo and asked them all the same questions. quite funny, i ended up answering the questions for them ;)

My 20th Birthday Celebration #1

Had such a fantastic time with my MG friends at NYDC Holland Villlage. We ate and talked endlessly... about what everyone is doing now, about the good ole secondary school days and some other girly stuff.

I really enjoyed myself and I felt so happy to see all my friends and talk to them and just catch up with each other and reminisce.
